Chuck and Annie Muller: Making a Difference

Annie and Chuck Muller

Chuck and Annie were pioneers in the planning and leadership of The Common Ground Collaborative and they continue as volunteers.  In 1999 they brainstormed ideas among members of Foothills Methodist and Santa Sophia Catholic churches as to how to address and administer aid to some of the needs in our community.   Chuck and Annie, who were not retired educators, spoke on behalf of school kids and education who have the greatest needs and potential areas for service that could make a difference in the lower economic school areas of Spring Valley.  Chuck made appointments and talked with eight school principals to open doors for successful future projects with the understanding of goals and limitations of religious groups.  Three elementary schools were adopted and later 4 more have been added.  There are now 3 participating churches with the addition of members of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.  Projects that continue today flourished under Chuck’s leadership at Foothills while Annie became the coordinator of the volunteer classroom tutors.  Today they are still volunteering with Books 4 Kids distribution day. Annie continues as a classroom volunteer at Bancroft School.   They also volunteer at Foothills for TLC, calling on homebound church members.

Chuck and Annie have recently sold their family home in Fletcher Hills where they raised 2 sons. Chuck is a retired division manager from Pac Bell. They now are enjoying a life of more leisure and fewer home chores in a lovely retirement apartment at Mt. Miguel Covenant Retirement Village.  They continue to travel and to live life to the fullest having enjoyed shows in Branson, Mo. and touring the Truman Library. A recent highlight was their charter flight to visit Washington D. C. with other WWII veterans.  Chuck and Annie were one of only two couples who were both veterans.

This delightful couple is a living example to us all for their continued commitment to making a difference, into their golden years!
