Some of our Common Ground classrooms at Bancroft Community School will receive 30 phonics phones to use for reading instruction. A phonics phone is a tube made out of PVC pipe and a pair of 90-degree plumbing elbows that are put together in the shape of a telephone receiver. The phones are used by students for various phonemic awareness activities which help enhance reading skills.
Common Ground is grateful to Ocean Beach Hardware owners Carolyn and Carl Weidetz who quickly ordered the materials and provided a generous discount for the phones, allowing Common Ground to fulfill another need in our schools.
