Dr. Lois DeKock, principal of Bancroft Community school, met Debbie and Bill Pollakov, founders of Bikes For Kids, and the union produced 100 brand new bikes for some very lucky third graders. Common Ground was called in to build all 100 bikes in an evening at the Bancroft Multi-purpose room. The next morning the students attended an assembly that they thought was to award 3 bikes to students who wrote the best "Be a Buddy" essay. After three bikes were awarded, then four, then five . . . the curtain opened to Mr. Pollakov proclaiming, "Everyone gets a bike!" Some very happy third graders had a day at school they'll never forget.
