Common Ground organizes a tea for the girls at Bancroft Elementary and at Kempton Elementary. The girls dress up for the event and enjoy this special event.

Bancroft's Tea is May 21st and Kempton's Tea is May 22nd.

Could you help?

We need bakers willing to donate cookies, brownies and other small treats delivered to Foothills United Methodist Church (office) between 9am and 12noon on May 20th.
We also need help with set up and clean up at Kempton on May 22nd
We are looking for a few women willing to serve as hostesses at the event (to help serve the tea and baked treats) at Kempton onMay 22nd
We need helpers to wash the dishes on May 21st (1-2:30pm) andMay 22nd (1:30-3pm)

Welcome

Common Ground works with the principals and their staffs at six elementary schools in Spring Valley, California to identify emergency food, clothing, or housing needs. We provide boxes of food at Thanksgiving Break and Spring Break and an adopt-a-family program at Christmas. Our mission also includes offering enrichment programs for students. We distribute books for kids to take home and host teas and luncheons at several of the schools. We help arrange for music, dance and drama assemblies when possible, and assemble bicycles for the Bikes 4 Kids program at an elementary school each year.

Our Common Ground

Common Ground is an alliance of churches - Foothills United Methodist, Santa Sophia Catholic and Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran - who share the desire to improve the well-being of the community that surrounds us.

We believe that by combining our talents and resources, we can make a greater impact and meet the needs of students and families at Avondale Elementary, Bancroft Elementary, Casa de Oro Elementary, Highlands Elementary, Kempton Elementary, and La Presa Elementary.

We believe that the education of children is of prime importance. We therefore pledge our time, skills and resources in support of a healthy learning environment at school and at home.

How You Can Help

Give a Gift of Time -- Volunteer to help with our Books 4 Kids program, Bikes 4 Kids program, our end-of-year tea party, or our fall/spring food distribution program.

Give a Gift of Talents -- Are an artist, a musician? Are you good at connecting people and resources? Can you bake?

Give a Gift of Treasures -- Help us fulfill the requests of the schools and meet a broad spectrum of needs, including...
* food packages for emergency distribution
* hygiene kits including toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and deodorant
* school supplies
* children's pants, underwear and socks
* books, games, arts and crafts supplies
* snacks and drinks during testing periods
* emergency needs of families including adult clothing, food supplies, and household furnishings
